AIso commonly known as the Ivory tower and currently ranked 3rd best in Africa. Established in 1922, Makerere University is one of the oldest and most prestigious Universities in Africa.

About Kampala - Host City

The Championship will be hosted in Kampala the capital and largest city of Uganda which was named the 13th fastest growing city on the planet. Kampala is one of the best cities to visit in Africa. This charming city is located along the shores of Lake Victoria. Built originally on seven hills, Kampala has grown today into a big cosmopolitan city.

Endowed with diversity of ethnic groups, blossoming economy, and its warm and friendly people, Kampala offers a wonderful introduction of Uganda.

Downtown Kampala supports most of the small and private businesses which operate up to late evening, the two taxi parks and several bus stations, budget hotels, markets and many other facilities. The streets are busy during working hours, crowded with shoppers, hawkers and hustlers. The city has the highest number of motorcycles (boda-bodas) which are the cheapest means of transport if you wish to maneuver through most of Kampala’s busy streets.

The Kampala Climate

Kampala is located in Central Uganda, a few kilometers from the equator. The central region enjoys a mild equable climate due to its altitude and the cooling breezes from the mountains. The day temperature averages about 26°C and night temperatures are around 16°C.

There are two distinct rainy seasons; the first is during the months of March and May and the second during the months of September and November. The mean annual rainfall varies from about 760 mm in the northeast to about 1,520 mm near Lake Victoria.

Accommodation

All participants will be accommodated at Imperial Royale Hotel 3 km from Makerere University, this functional hotel with a monolithic exterior features ornate furniture and neutral colours, the elegant rooms and suites come with free Wi-Fi, flat-screen TVs and desks. Room service is available 24/7.

Breakfast and covered parking are free. Other amenities include a spa area with massage treatments and single-sex saunas, a fitness centre and an outdoor pool, as well as 3 restaurants (1 serving Asian cuisine), a 24-hour lobby bar and a pool bar.

Transportation

Arrival in Uganda (airport of Entebbe) by flight:

Entebbe Airport is the main point of entry for the event. Please let us know your travel plans as soon as possible, at the latest 1 month prior arrival (individual entry).

A free transportation system will be organized for the delegations. The service will start as of the arrival of delegations at Entebbe Airport where participants and their teams will be transported to the hotel.

Arrival in Uganda by Road

You will be greeted by our volunteers. Please let us know your travel plans as soon as possible, at the latest 1 month prior arrival (individual entry).

Transport will then be available from the hotel to the official ceremonies, city tour and excursion, etc.

Cultural Programs

The traditional entertainment planned for the Championship will include:

  • Organized contemporary music and mixed zone for athletes plus karaoke
  • City site tour in conjunction with Uganda Tourism Board
  • A visit to the Source of the Nile
  • A village market for souvenirs

Plus, more and more entertainment typical of Uganda
