South Africa has named its 12-star team that will battle for the World University Netball Championship title at Makerere Uni9versity on September 17-21.
The team features a huge bulk of influential players from the University of Pretoria.
The team includes Chante Louw (Tuks), Alicia Puren (Kovsies), Chantelle Swart (Tuks), Nichole Taljaard (Maties), Marlize de Bruin (Tuks), Tshina Mdau (Tuks), Sikholiwe Mdletshe (Kovsies), Nobubele Phuza (Madibaz), Lungile Mthembu (Tuks), Khomotso Mamburu (Kovbsies), Stephanie Brandt (Maties) and Jasmine Ziegelmeier (Tuks).
Sri Lanka, Kenya, Singapore, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Namibia and hosts Uganda are yet to name their final teams.
The bulk of team Uganda’s players were currently training with national teams for the World Cup qualifiers and East African Community Games.
Team Uganda will rely on the experience of She Cranes stars Betty Kizza, Joan Nampungu and Mary Nuba.
South Africa won the last edition in Miami, USA where Uganda finished fourth after being beaten to bronze by Australia.
In July, 2012, the first World University Netball Championship was held in Cape Town, South Africa.
The South African Federation of University Sports organized the event. It is a women's indoor tournament with a maximum of 12 teams competing.
A total of 12 competitors and five officials are allowed per team.
Imperial Hotel will accommodate all the participating teams.
