The Local Organising Committee of the 3rd FISU World University Netball Championship has sealed an attractive partnership with the Imperial Group of Hotels.
The hotel chain has offered subisidised rates for over 300 team members, 400 cartons of water and internal transport for all the 12 participating sides.
Makerere, Uganda’s biggest and oldest University will host the event from September 11 to 21.
This is the third edition. Uganda finished fourth at the last edition in Miami. A total of 11 countries have confirmed participation for this year’s event.

“Our partnership with Makerere and the Association of Uganda University Sports (AUUS) simply resonates with what we stand for as an internationally recognised hotel that was designed to serve the most sophisticated clients,” said the Group’s head of Sales and Marketing James Kasavubu.
The partnership was announced at Kampala’s Imperial Royale Hotel on Tuesday.
Cyriaco Kabagambe, the Makerere Dean of Students, who represented University Vice Chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe, commended Imperial Group.

“The magnitude of the championship we are set to host demands class and quality partnerships.
As such, we feel honoured to be associating with a partner as huge and with a profile as big as Imperial Group,” stated Kabagambe.
Local Organising Committee head of secretariat and AUUS president Peninnah Kabenge said preparations for the event are in progress.
She explained that due to constraints they have scaled down the size of the event’s venue from a 5000 to 1500 sh3.5bn seater.
This will still become Uganda’s biggest indoor facility. The MTN Arena at Lugogo is a 700 seater.
“Construction starts next month and ends in August. The first days of September will be given to the hosts’ team to try out the facility.
Etuuke, a Luganda word which means reaching, is the official tournament slogan.
The team comprising of the crème de la crème of Uganda’s universities will train at Ndejje University.
The World University Championships are organised by the Fédération Internationale du Sport Universitaire (FISU).

In July, 2012, the first World University Netball Championship was held in Cape Town, South Africa. The South African Federation of University Sports organised the event.
It is a women's indoor tournament with a maximum of 12 teams competing. 12 competitors and 5 officials are allowed per team.
The venue of the first championship was the Good Hope Sports Centre in Cape Town, July 2–7, 2012. The winners were England, who beat South Africa in the finals.
